Appy-Go-Lucky, or "Lucky, is a wildly spotted appaloosa whose parents are both appaloosas. Until just a few years ago, appaloosas were so rare that an appaloosa-to-appaloosa breeding was unheard of. Part of this was due to the misunderstanding of the appaloosa gene which had been called a recessive, a partial dominant, an incomplete dominant, or even an "unknown".

We have learned much about the appaloosa gene(s)... and this guy has a pedigree packed with those that are most expressive and colorFULL. This guy will be ideally matched with lighter colored females to produce the best chances for beautiful spotted offspring. Or... throw in that black gene! That is always an exciting option. :-)

Either way, Lucky is the perfect "next generation" for colors and patterns here at Rare Gems Alpacas and for the serious appaloosa breeder.

UPDATE: I am thrilled to say that Lucky has matured nicely this year and just settled his first females!
